It was a key wish of our founder that SARO should visit primary schools in order to introduce young children to orchestral instruments and music; to this end we perform at three local primary schools each year.
These interactive concerts are designed to give the children an insight into what playing music in an orchestra can be like, and to inspire them to take up music themselves. The sessions involve a lot of interaction between the conductor, audience, and orchestra members, and sometimes the children are invited to sit in the orchestra and play along. These events have proved so popular that we now have a waiting list.
In the past we have also held conducting workshops which give music students the opportunity to practise their conducting skills with a live orchestra. The orchestra also plays with a young soloist each term to give them valuable experience of performing core repertoire with orchestral backing.
Please get in touch if you'd like SARO to come and play at your school.
